BOP for PCP Systems: Integral and Non-Integral Designs

Products → BOP

Rod BOP — Built for PCP Operations

BOP engineered specifically for the demands of progressive cavity pump operations — delivering positive well control and live-well service ability in a single, field-proven assembly.

Flowrise BOP final

Why it matters

The standard Flowrise Model FR-3000 BOPs are designed for single barrier operations  whilst proving  full wellbore access. Using the wrong BOP is not just a compliance risk — it is a well control failure waiting to happen.

The Flowrise PCP BOPs are engineered from the ground up to withstand the nominal  pressure rating up to 5,000 psi and up to 10,000 lbs of weight. Every component — from the HNBR seal element to the forged 4130 steel body — is selected and rated for the specific mechanical and chemical environment of a PCP well.

The result: Full isolation for, live-well stuffing box replacement, and full API 16A certification — in a compact, field-serviceable assembly that installs on standard wellhead flanges in under two hours.

Engineering highlights

Dynamic Rotating Seal — Full Well Pressure, Full RPM

The HNBR packing element seals continuously around the rod body at full working pressure and up to 600 RPM, eliminating the operational compromise between well control and production uptime that plagues standard static BOPs in PCP service.

Forged 4130 Alloy Body — Full-Bore, No Internal Restrictions

Heat-treated AISI 4130 forged steel body with HRC ≤ 22 for full NACE MR0175 sour service compliance. Full-bore design means no restriction to rod couplings, measurement tools or coiled tubing — no compromises on operational flexibility.

Anti-Backspin Mechanical Lock — Uncontrolled Backspin Prevention

Integral mechanical locking collar arrests uncontrolled rod backspin during power-off events or downhole gas-lock — the most common cause of surface seal failure and rod-string unthreading in PCP operations. Fully compatible with Flowrise PCP drivehead brake systems.

Live-Well Packing Replacement — No Kill, No Lost Production

Dual-element packing stack (primary HNBR rotating + secondary static backup) allows full element replacement under live wellbore pressure — without killing the well. Every element change that doesn't require a kill saves hours of production and fluid costs.

Integral Grease Injection & Pressure Bleed Ports

Continuous packing lubrication via 1/4″ NPT grease injection port extends element service life in abrasive and high-sand-cut environments. Dedicated bleed port between packing elements allows trapped annular pressure to be safely vented prior to element servicing.

API 6A Flanged Connections — Universal Wellhead Compatibility

RTJ or RF end connections available per pressure class — direct bolt-on to all standard API wellhead spools and tubing head adapters. No transition spools or custom adapters required for most surface wellhead configurations.
